Entomological evaluation of dirofilariasis epidemic season

Recommendations for the entomological evaluation of dirofilariasis epidemic season are presented. The calculation technique the terms of the efficient mosquitoes infecting and dirofilariasis transmission as well as the number of possible Dirofilaria larvae generations for the transmission season is described. Determining the entomological indexes of dirofilariasis epidemic season is useful for optimization of dirofilariasis prevention, including this infection pathogens vectors control measures.

The modern approach to pest control suggests reduction of pest species number to the level safe for people with the possibility of species recovering in future. The program of pest control measurements
encompasses both fundamental and applied issues of population dynamics and management (the studies of the mechanism of population structure recovering, the analysis of the long-term population trends, the evaluation of economic benefits and costs of pest control measurements, the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) etc.

The analytical review ispresented of the main vectors of tick-borne infection causative agents. Habitat areas of ticks with regard to their species composition, indices of domination, dynamics of tick abundance and their epidemiological significance in the Rostov Region are determined for the period from 1999 to 2013.
